What to
look for in a battery:
Battery
Chemistry: Nickel
Cadmium (NiCad) This is the oldest form of rechargeable battery technology. NiCad
batteries tend to have the shortest run-times and are the least expensive of all the
battery types. Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) These
batteries offer improved run-times and are less prone to the memory effect than their
NiCad counterparts. Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) This is the newest form
of rechargeable battery technology. These batteries are lightweight, offer excellent
run-times and do not suffer from the memory effect.
How batteries are
rated: Milliamp-hour (mAH)
ratings- the mAH rating of a battery is an indication of the batterys capacity.
Batteries with higher mAH ratings will give the laptop user improved run-time between
recharges. Most Hi-Capacity batteries
have higher mAH ratings than the original manufacturers batteries. This does not
cause any incompatibilities it just means that the HiCapacity
battery will power the laptop longer than the original.
Car Adapters:
Car (auto) adapters are DC to DC
converters which allow the laptop to be plugged into a car cigarette lighter socket
without an AC adapter. Hi-Capacity car
adapters provide enough power to run the laptop and charge the battery simultaneously.
